Her Majesty Queen Rania paid a visit to Tal Al Rumman Women's Cooperative in Al Balqa' Governorate on Tuesday January 18th to learn more about the cooperative's economic and social development projects for rural women.

During her visit, Her Majesty met with the cooperative's president, Ayda Ghanmeh, and members of its board of directors, who updated her on the cooperative's accomplishments and future goals.

Tal Al Rumman Women's Cooperative, the village's only community-based organization, empowers women via skill-specific training sessions ranging from dairy production workshops to sewing and embroidery.

The cooperative also aspires to generate local job possibilities and promote sustainable development, and it has created a productive kitchen to help Tal Al Rumman's women better their lives via cooking.

The Queen then went on a tour of the cooperative's headquarters, dropping by a food production training session and one of its vegetable farms. She also checked out their hydroponic greenhouse experiment, which uses nutrient solutions instead of soil to grow crops more effectively. This growing method enables the women to reap high food yields without the use of sunlight or additional work.

The cooperative, which was founded in 2017, offers a variety of occupational sectors through its empowerment programs, including agriculture, baking, and sewing, as well as a clothes bank for impoverished families in the neighborhood.

On Tuesday December 7th, Her Majesty Queen Rania visited the Queen Rania Teacher Academy (QRTA) in the King Hussein Business Park to congratulate its team after one of its training programs received international academic accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Last week, QRTA announced that its in-service Teacher Education Professional Diploma (TEPD), which offers online and in-person training to current teachers, had been accredited by CAEP, the largest accreditation council of its kind in the United States, making the academy the first educational organization to receive the international academic accreditation in Jordan and the third in the Middle East.

In a meeting with QRTA’s CEO, Dr. Osama Obeidat, and members of the academy’s management team, Her Majesty stated that the CAEP accreditation is a testament to the competency of the academy and the caliber of its in-service TEPD program.

“This achievement didn’t happen overnight. It comes after a ten-year journey of hard work and constant evolution,” the Queen said, adding that QRTA must continue to assess its programs in order to monitor their real-life impact on teachers and students.

The TEPD was first launched in 2016 by QRTA as a pre-service diploma in cooperation with University College London and the Ministry of Education. In May 2021, QRTA handed over the pre-service diploma to the University of Jordan and three other public universities, making the first-of-its-kind diploma available to prospective teachers across the country.

QRTA has since moved out of University of Jordan campus and handed over its building to the university’s administration, and developed an in-service version of the TEPD, which it now offers to working teachers in Jordan and the region.

During the meeting, Obeidat explained that the CAEP accreditation process took two years to complete, and included the submission of a comprehensive roadmap, rigorous documentation, several interviews, and a site visit. QRTA’s in-service TEPD was granted full accreditation for the coming seven years, which is the maximum accreditation length granted by the council.

Her Majesty was briefed on QRTA’s current work, including its introduction of an online and blended teacher-training model in light of the pandemic. The team explained their efforts to share their experience in pre-service teacher training with public universities, contributing to the successful scaling of the pre-service TEPD program.

The meeting also included a summary of QRTA’s recent contributions to local and regional education industry, such as the academy’s series of free live webinars hosted by Jordanian and Arab educational experts, totaling 72 sessions and netting 789,000 views to date.

On Wednesday October 20th, Her Majesty Queen Rania launched the 24th edition of Jordan River Designs Handicrafts Exhibition, where she was presented with a collection of items handcrafted by women from local communities.

Her Majesty viewed the exhibition with Jordan River Foundation (JRF) Director General Enaam Barrishi, admiring this year's assortment of wall hangings, coffee tables, pillows, baskets, carpets, candles, and fashion accessories.

During the trip, the Queen met with a number of the foundation's partners and contributors, including her mother thanking them for their support and emphasizing that the sale of local women's handicraft has a substantial influence on their lives and capacity to support their families.

Her Majesty also spoke with a group of female craftsmen about their experiences with JRF's social and economic empowerment projects. In turn, Queen Rania praised the women for their exceptional efforts in designing and handcrafting each item on exhibit.

The 2021 exhibition, titled "The Jordan You Love, Handmade," is shown in the JRF store in Abdoun and honors Jordanian folklore and the country's nomadic and rural traditions.

This year, JRF's social business initiatives, which include Jordan River Designs, Bani Hamidah Designs, Al Karma Embroidery, and Wadi Al Rayan Designs, have empowered over 520 women with entrepreneurial training and job possibilities.

Her Majesty Queen Rania as one of the founding council members of Earthshot Prize met with the Top 15 finalists of the 1st edition of the Earthshot Prize Awards via webcam right before the awards which was held at Alexandra Palace on Sunday October 17th.

The EarthShot Prize was created by His Royal Highness Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge through the Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Inspired by the late American President John F. Kennedy's moonshot

Her Majesty spoke with Hello! UK Magazine saying she was "When it comes to saving our planet, giving up is simply not an option," adding she is "humbled and honoured" to be a part of "William's visionary Earthshot Prize. Adding that she was “humbled and honoured” by the opportunity to help in the decision-making process for the prestigious award.

"Prince William's visionary Earthshot Prize, which I am humbled and honoured to be part of, is a launching pad for groundbreaking green ideas. It will invest in the activists and innovators seeking to restore nature, clean our air, revive our oceans, reduce waste and repair our climate. It will connect environmental leaders with business leaders, providing the capital and platform they need to maximise their impact and bring solutions to scale."

Speaking about the climate condition in the Middle East, Her Majesty said this, "In the Middle East, the last few years have seen more than their share of emergencies: conflicts, a refugee crisis and a global pandemic, to name a few. And this summer, our long-simmering climate emergency seemed to reach its boiling point. Many Middle Eastern countries are experiencing record-breaking heatwaves, punishing droughts, tropical cyclones and unprecedented forest fires. The region is warming at twice the global average, with scientists predicting 4 ̊C rise in average temperatures by 2050."

While saying this about the situation in Jordan, "For me, climate change hits close to home. My country, Jordan, is one of the four driest nations in the world, and we share our limited water supplies with a significant refugee population. With rising temperatures and shifting weather patterns, scientists predict Jordan will receive even less rain in the years to come. Already, local crops are suffering, dams are running dry, and the Dead Sea is shrinking.

On Monday October 11th, Her Majesty Queen Rania was in Jabal, Amman where she visited the Turquoise Mountain showroom and met with a group of local artisans who have benefited from the organization’s training and employment services.

Turquoise Mountain is an international non-profit organization launched by Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, which aims to strengthen global links to cultural heritage by developing traditional skills, providing local employment opportunities, and reviving historical cultural sites.

On arrival, Queen Rania was welcomed to Turquoise Mountain’s showroom on Rainbow Street by Country Director Richard Dwerryhouse, who gave Her Majesty a tour of the facilities. She stopped by the organization’s design studio to observe a jewelry-making workshop before proceeding to a meeting with a group of the organization’s artisans.

The young artisans explained to Her Majesty how they have benefited from Turquoise Mountain’s various learning opportunities, which include jewelry-making, woodworking, and design workshops. These programs also facilitate cultural exchange among Jordanian and Syrian beneficiaries, thereby enriching the local crafts market.

Turquoise Mountain launched its Jordanian operations in 2018, and currently employs around 70 people. It offers workshops, training courses, and supported apprenticeships to young Jordanians and Syrian refugees, while also operating a heritage-led restoration project at Umm Qais.

Additionally, the organization hosts a cultural heritage program for children between the ages of six and 16, educating local youth on Islamic geometric design, traditional embroidery, and micro-mosaics. It also recently cooperated with the Jordan River Foundation on a re-engagement program for out-of-school children, preparing them to rejoin the formal education system.
