On February 04th 2025, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, accompanied by Italian First Lady Laura Mattarella, paid a visit to the 'Jordan: Dawn of Christianity' exhibition at the Palazzo della Cancelleria in Rome on Tuesday, where she encouraged Europeans to visit Jordan and discover its rich legacy.

The month-long exhibition, held under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, is a collaboration between Jordan's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Jordan Tourism Board, and the Vatican.

Her Majesty and the Italian First Lady inspected the exhibition, which included 90 artefacts from over 30 distinct archaeological sites in Jordan, with the goal of highlighting the country's historical relevance to Christianity.

Queen Rania of Jordan has invited visitors to an exhibition commemorating 30 years of diplomatic ties between the country and the Holy See. The exhibition showcases Jordan's exceptional cultural wealth and its thriving Christian community, one of the oldest in the world. The Queen praised Jordan's hospitality and the rich history of its ancient civilizations. The displays trace the evolution of Christianity in Jordan across various time periods, from the baptism of Christ to the present Hashemite era.

According to Her Majesty's website, "The exhibition also features artifacts from five pilgrimage sites in Jordan, including Mount Nebo, the memorial of Prophet Moses; Tel Mar Elias, the birthplace of Prophet Elijah; Our Lady of the Mountain Church, a shrine commemorating Mother Mary; Machaerus, the site of John the Baptist’s martyrdom; and the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ.

Coinciding with the Vatican’s Holy Jubilee Year under the theme ‘Pilgrims of Hope’ and featuring archeological items never before displayed outside of Jordan, the exhibition aims to serve as an open invitation for the world to explore Jordan’s spiritual and cultural treasures and its rich biblical landscape.

The agricultural project, which spans 1022 dunums and is being conducted by a coalition of cooperatives, was briefed to King Abdullah and Queen Rania.

The project, which began in 2021 as a result of Royal orders, is located on property donated by the Ministry of Agriculture and employs approximately 200 local community members, 80 percent of whom are women.

The agricultural project is overseen by Al Hussein Agricultural Cooperative and the Military Retirees Association, while the fishery project is operated and managed by Al Tweisah Charity Association, which produces approximately 6 tonnes of fish per year.

Agriculture Minister Khaled Hneifat stated that the consortium will be given an agricultural station in the area in order to create jobs and construct an ecotourism agriculture project that will assist the local community.

The King and Queen also toured the Al Disi Women Cooperative Association's premises, which was founded in 2010, and were briefed on the projects carried out by women in the local community, such as pottery and ceramics, sewing, a play-based learning project, and a traditional cooking experience offered to visitors and tourists.

A greenhouse nursery for cultivating and re-populating rare species such as wormwood, lavender cotton, saxaul, sage, wild thyme, and orache is part of the project.

Their Majesties planted a saxaul tree, which is endemic to Jordan's Southern Badia region, during the tour.

The Queen also took part in an activity organized by the Hour of Code initiative, which is a global ed-tech initiative aimed at familiarizing students with the fundamentals of programming and teaching them coding concepts in simple and enjoyable ways.

Her Majesty received a brief overview of the Road2Code program, which employs innovative methods to improve students' programming skills and equip them with essential digital skills, during a meeting with INJAZ CEO Deema Bibi.

The Queen also attended a training session for teachers on the basics of coding and the use of specialized educational resources to facilitate student access to coding-related learning opportunities led by Code.org Founder and CEO Hadi Partovi, where she spoke with teachers about their experiences with Code.org. Leonardo Ortiz Villacorta, Vice President of International Partnerships at Code.org, and Sawsan Al Qassas, Principal at the school, also attended the session.

Her Majesty concluded her visit by meeting with entrepreneurs supported by INJAZ's incubator, mySTARTUP, to learn about the importance of developing digital competencies and coding skills in order to create market-demanding products and services.

Created by Code.org, Hour of Code currently reaches tens of millions of students in more than 180 countries, and Code.org has so far created over 500 one-hour tutorials in over 45 languages.

Established in 2013, Code.org is an education innovation nonprofit based in the United States, dedicated to the vision that every student in every school should have the opportunity to learn computer science as part of their core K-12 education. The organization expands access to computer science in schools, with a focus on increasing participation by young women and students from underrepresented groups. So far, the non-profit has reached 2 million teachers and over 70 million students, the vast majority of whom are from groups historically underrepresented in computer science. In Jordan, Code.org has collaborated with INJAZ and Edraak in Jordan to offer its services to local school students.

Founded in 1999, as a project under international charitable organization Save the Children, INJAZ became an independent Jordanian nonprofit in 2001. It aims to inspire and prepare youth to become productive members of society and accelerate the development of the national economy by contributing to the advancement of education and entrepreneurship. INJAZ currently reaches over 750,000 youth per year with its career-oriented capacity-building programs, and has benefited almost three million youth to date.

Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah travelled to the Al Karak Governorate on the evening of April 6th, where she joined a group of women for Iftar, where she commended the attendees for their contributions to local society.

Held at the historic Karak Castle, the Iftar hosted a group of women from Al Karak active in the fields of education, social welfare, culture, volunteer work, and charitable efforts.

After the evening prayer which broke the fast, Her Majesty expressed her warm wishes for the Holy month of Ramadan to the accomplished women in attendance and their families, adding that she has sorely missed these pleasant gatherings.“I am very happy to be here during the first week of Ramadan, surrounded by my sisters, the devoted women of Al Karak,” Queen Rania said.

“Ramadan is always a month of goodwill, blessings, and reconnecting with loved ones, but this year it feels even more special than usual – perhaps because we have been unable to get together for Iftar like this for the past two years,” she added.

In turn, the Governor of Al Karak, Mohammad Fayez, thanked Her Majesty for her work to uplift the lives of people across the country. He went on to highlight the positive feedback of a group of women participating in an Umrah mission organized by the Queen this Ramadan.

A total of 550 women hailing from across Jordan will perform the lesser pilgrimage to Mecca as part of the mission throughout the holy month, the first group of whom left Jordan on Tuesday.
