In the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Wijdan bint Fawaz Al-Hashemi and other members of the Royal Family, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah inaugurated the Wijdan Art Space building at the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts (JNGFA) Park in Jabal Al Weibdeh on Tuesday May 2nd.

The Wijdan Art Space, which is named after Princess Wijdan, president of the Royal Society of Fine Arts (RSFA), includes studios and places for guided courses and workshops in drawing, painting, pottery, sculpture, printing, graphic design, and art appreciation. These training opportunities, which will be promoted on all JNGFA social media platforms, will be open to all ages of students, young artists, and hobbyists.

Outdoor places for cultural, artistic, and musical evenings are also available at the Wijdan Art Space, as is a café feeding trainees and guests.

The original building housing the JNGFA was also named after Princess Wijdan during the occasion, a decision made by the RSFA Board of Trustees to recognise Her Royal Highness' involvement in supporting art and artists over the last 44 years.

"A dream was born here, in what was a single-story house with a collection of 77 artworks," said JNGFA Director General Dr. Khaled Khreis. "Princess Wijdan's passion for art led her to establish the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts in this very building."

"This monument to art and culture, which now includes four buildings and a park, serves not only as a platform for artists from Jordan and the Arab World, but also as a bridge between cultures and civilizations conveying the message of coexistence, love, and peace through art," Khreis continued.

Princess Wijdan decided to devote herself to the promotion of art in Jordan and the creation of an accessible space for Arab art in 1979, resulting in the establishment of the RSFA and, a year later, the JNGFA in a rented villa furnished with dozens of pieces of art, the majority of which came from her private collection.

The gallery now has 3,000 works in its permanent collection and has grown into a dynamic institution with four buildings, a park, and various projects such as its Touring Museum and The Factory Platform, which aims to involve the local community in all aspects of the creative process.

Following the creation of the JNGFA, Her Royal Highness was inspired to pursue her education by researching regional art trends. In 1993, she earned a doctorate in Islamic Art from the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), and she has subsequently published and edited several volumes on the history of Islamic art.

In addition to teaching at three of Jordan's top universities, the Princess established the Higher Institute of Islamic Art and Architecture at Al al-Bayt University and the Faculty of Arts and Design at the University of Jordan, where she was the first dean.

On Sunday August 14th, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah visited LIVINC incubator in Zai, located in Al Balqa’ governorate. During her visit, she met with the team behind the boutique farm for community initiatives and value-focused programs.

Her Majesty was welcomed to LIVINC by its founder, Shadi Al Hasan, before joining members of the incubator’s core team for a conversation on the inspiration behind its premise, the services it offers, and its plans for the future.

At the incubator, Her Majesty met with a number of creatives who demonstrated the way LIVINC fosters creativity and empowers its innovators to produce and showcase their work to local and international markets.

Located in the forests of Zai in Al Balqa’, LIVINC is an 8,000 square meter farm that supports Jordanian creatives and helps them attain financial independence by transforming their ideas into profitable businesses. In its efforts to promote the creative economy, LIVINC mentors Jordanian creatives in seven areas, including, self-development, arts, communication, content creation, design, digital skills, and crafts.

The incubator aims to hone these creatives’ skills and turn their ideas into practical initiatives with the ultimate goal of developing the local economy and generating new job opportunities in the creative sector. Its latest endeavor, the Creativity Caravan, is a development initiative that aims to inspire inventiveness and develop the skills of young individuals in underprivileged areas.

To learn more about the incubator’s sustainable initiatives, Her Majesty visited the greenhouse, where she was briefed on LIVINC’S sustainable solutions and green initiatives. The Queen also saw the work of several creatives on LIVINC’s terrace, where a local music group, Bokra Band was playing, before making a final stop at the pottery studio.

During a visit to the Divine Farmers' Market in Jabal Al-Weibdeh, her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah today visited several farmers and local food producers.

Talking to the Manara Arts & Culture team behind Dibeen.com, Queen Rania highlighted that it had been tough for everybody to do so last year, driving many local companies to digital markets, and start selling its items online.

She complimented Dibeen.com's creator, Zeid Qudsi, for simple access to Jordanian consumers for farms and merchants to provide channels for the supply to customers of high-quality agricultural goods. Her Majesty was also glad to cooperate with local farmers by assisting the young website team to package their products and promote them to a broader audience.

Throughout her visit of the farmers market, Queen Rania chatted with a number of Dibeen.com merchants and beneficiaries, who highlighted how the use of technology enabled them to not only continue working during the epidemic, but also to expand their client base.

Dibeen.com is a web site and mobile app created last year by the vendors that sells their products and other local items to help Jordanian companies to continue marketing their products to the Jordanian customer over the pandemic. They also helps local producers with the packaging, branding and distribution of their local products, livestock products and other products in addition to the online marketplace.
