On Monday June 12th, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah attended the King Hussein Cancer Foundation's (KHCF) 2023 Hope Gala fundraising event in Amman, which was hosted by Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania.

The event aims to promote projects that help Jordan and the region combat cancer, such as the creation of specialised centres around Jordan under the umbrella of the King Hussein Cancer Centre (KHCC). The forthcoming King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein Building in Aqaba, as well as two other structures in Amman for paediatric treatment and cancer research, are among them.

Their Royal Highnesses Prince Talal bin Muhammad, special adviser to His Majesty, and Princess Ghida Talal, Chairperson of the KHCC and KHCF, as well as Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh and Former Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam, were in attendance at the event.

Princess Ghida remarked about the foundation and center's continuous work to promote accessible cancer care during her speech. "We pledge to continue our fight against cancer, recognising it as an adversary that is both formidable and deceptive, and one that we must not tolerate," Her Royal Highness added.

Several cancer survivors and high-level partners were honoured throughout the night.

His Majesty King Abdullah lay the groundwork for the King Hussein Cancer Centre's (KHCC) King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein Building in Aqaba on Thursday.

Cancer patients in the southern governorates will be able to receive treatment at the hospital rather than needing to go to Amman.

Her Royal Highness Princess Ghida Talal, head of the board of trustees of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Centre, delivered words to King Abdullah, who was accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah.

Her Royal Highness praised His Majesty for his continuous support for the KHCC and KHCF during a ceremony to lay the foundation stone.

The ceremony was attended by Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, Health Minister Feras Al Hawari, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority Chief Commissioner Nayef Al Fayez, and Aqaba Governor Khaled Hajjaj, as well as members of the KHCF and KHCC boards of trustees.

The first phase of the project will begin in the third quarter of 2024, with a four-story building spanning 6,738 square meters and employing 90 medical and support employees.

Early detection, chemo and radiation therapy, laboratory, colonoscopy, pain management, a pharmacy, and home care will all be available to cancer patients at the KHCC's Aqaba site.

The Aqaba project is in accordance with the KHCC's objective of strengthening its role as a national cancer treatment institution.

The project is part of the KHCC's growth strategy, which includes the opening of the Samih Darwazah Cancer Centre at Al Bashir Hospital in 2021.

Additional facilities, including as a cancer center, a radiation therapy facility, outpatient clinics, and research laboratories, are being planned surrounding the KHCC headquarters in Amman.
