On their first joint event of 2023, on Sunday January 8th His Majesty King Abdullah, accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah went to the Southern Badia region, where they visited an agricultural project and the Women’s Cooperative Association in Al Disi.

The agricultural project, which spans 1022 dunums and is being conducted by a coalition of cooperatives, was briefed to King Abdullah and Queen Rania.

The project, which began in 2021 as a result of Royal orders, is located on property donated by the Ministry of Agriculture and employs approximately 200 local community members, 80 percent of whom are women.

The agricultural project is overseen by Al Hussein Agricultural Cooperative and the Military Retirees Association, while the fishery project is operated and managed by Al Tweisah Charity Association, which produces approximately 6 tonnes of fish per year.

Agriculture Minister Khaled Hneifat stated that the consortium will be given an agricultural station in the area in order to create jobs and construct an ecotourism agriculture project that will assist the local community.

The King and Queen also toured the Al Disi Women Cooperative Association's premises, which was founded in 2010, and were briefed on the projects carried out by women in the local community, such as pottery and ceramics, sewing, a play-based learning project, and a traditional cooking experience offered to visitors and tourists.

A greenhouse nursery for cultivating and re-populating rare species such as wormwood, lavender cotton, saxaul, sage, wild thyme, and orache is part of the project.

Their Majesties planted a saxaul tree, which is endemic to Jordan's Southern Badia region, during the tour.

The briefing also discussed the Badawiyat program, a cultural tourism project centered on a productive kitchen serving traditional meals to tourists and visitors, as well as a circular loan fund for financing small businesses and a solar power project backed by the Jordan River Foundation.
