Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah travelled to the Al Karak Governorate on the evening of April 6th, where she joined a group of women for Iftar, where she commended the attendees for their contributions to local society.

Held at the historic Karak Castle, the Iftar hosted a group of women from Al Karak active in the fields of education, social welfare, culture, volunteer work, and charitable efforts.

After the evening prayer which broke the fast, Her Majesty expressed her warm wishes for the Holy month of Ramadan to the accomplished women in attendance and their families, adding that she has sorely missed these pleasant gatherings.“I am very happy to be here during the first week of Ramadan, surrounded by my sisters, the devoted women of Al Karak,” Queen Rania said.

“Ramadan is always a month of goodwill, blessings, and reconnecting with loved ones, but this year it feels even more special than usual – perhaps because we have been unable to get together for Iftar like this for the past two years,” she added.

In turn, the Governor of Al Karak, Mohammad Fayez, thanked Her Majesty for her work to uplift the lives of people across the country. He went on to highlight the positive feedback of a group of women participating in an Umrah mission organized by the Queen this Ramadan.

A total of 550 women hailing from across Jordan will perform the lesser pilgrimage to Mecca as part of the mission throughout the holy month, the first group of whom left Jordan on Tuesday.

Her Majesty Queen Rania paid a visit to Al Mafraq's Sarhan District on Tuesday November 2nd, where she met with local entrepreneurs and civil society organizations working on projects, including those funded by the Royal Hashemite Court's community-based grant scheme.

Her Majesty praised a group of small business owners and civil society organization leaders for their dedicated efforts to uplift their community, describing their enthusiasm and willpower as unafraid of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Her Majesty delivered these remarks at Sama Al Sarhan Sports Club, where she was greeted by Al Mafraq Governor Salman Najada, club director Abdullah Sarhan, and Jordan River Foundation (JRF) Director General Enaam Al Barrishi.

Her Majesty commended civil society organizations that collaborate with JRF to carry out initiatives in the region for creating a true and practical difference in people's lives, emphasizing their critical role in spreading awareness about health and safety measures.

"We cannot minimize the hazards of the coronavirus, and I appreciate your efforts to educate the public and encourage them to acquire the vaccination to protect themselves and their families," she added.

The Queen was briefed on the status of a community-based grant scheme supported by the Royal Hashemite Court during the gathering (RHC). The RHC-supported scheme, implemented by JRF in collaboration with 36 civil society organizations, provides beneficiaries in Al Mafraq with financing and business training.

According to Barrishi, over the last two years, 200 families have received loans through the scheme, and more than 70 permanent jobs have been created in the governorate.

During her visit to Sarhan District, Her Majesty stopped at the Al Tawasol Association for Family and Child Development, where she was greeted by the president of the organization, Ms. Hajar Tweiresh.

Al Tawasol, which was founded in 2007, aims to strengthen the social fabric of the Sarhan community as well as to empower residents by building their capacities and providing them with economic opportunities.

During a tour of the facilities, Queen Rania observed a COVID-19 awareness session and the importance of coronavirus vaccination. She also visited UNICEF's My Space facility, which is a safe space for engaging children aged 6 to 18 and promoting their participation and socioemotional well-being.

During her visit, Her Majesty also attended a number of other activities at the association, including a session for mothers on early childhood development, a robotics training course for adolescents, and a tutoring session for schoolchildren.

She also went to a dairy shop owned by Mr. Shifa Sarhan, a young beneficiary who received a local grant to help finance his small business, which he is now looking to expand into a factory.

JRF provides beneficiaries of the royal grant with the necessary training and guidance on how to develop their own income-generating projects.
