After their visit to Turkey on Sunday, His Majesty accompanied by Her Majesty departed for Tunis, Tunisia accepting an invitation from Tunisian president Beji Caid Essebsi who received the Sovereign couple at Tunis-Carthage International Airport with Tunisian dignitaries and government workers.
Upon arrival, His Majesty was accorded an official welcoming ceremony with a reviewing of the guards and singing of the national anthem.
Later on His Majesty and President Essebsi held talks where they agreed on the importance of bolstering economic, trade, investment, military, agricultural, and tourism cooperation.
The need to activate joint committees and increase the exchange of visits between the private and public sectors of the two countries was also stressed, in order to explore opportunities for further cooperation.
His Majesty also sat down with Prime Minister of Tunisia Youssef Chahed to discuss bilateral ties and means to expand cooperation in all area
In the meantime, Her Majesty met with Tunisian First Lady, Chadlia Saïda Farhat discussed common interests and noted the longstanding friendship between their two countries and citizens and had hopes for it to continue growing with the years
Her Majesty then alone also visited the town of Sidi Bou Said, where she met with a group of Tunisian entrepreneurs, startup founders, and business accelerators and joined for a roundtable discussion on their efforts to support innovation and entrepreneurship in the country.
Hosted by startup accelerator program and investment fund, Flat6Labs, the meeting was attended by representatives from the education, aeronautics, e-commerce, and agriculture sectors, who presented their innovative solutions to challenges faced by their industries.
Launched in 2016 in partnership with entrepreneurial initiative Le15, Flat6Labs is now present in six countries across the region, where it utilizes its extensive strategic network to provide entrepreneurs with seed funding, strategic mentorship, office space, training, and other services.
Her Majesty is a strong supporter of young entrepreneurs in Jordan and beyond, working towards advancing innovation and development through the Queen Rania Foundation for Education and Development (QRF), which aims to be a leading regional resource and incubator for new and innovative ideas and initiatives in education.
During the discussion, the young entrepreneurs shared their success stories and challenges as they work to grow their projects. They also highlighted recent local improvements to the business environment in Tunisia through new regulatory frameworks.
