Visits to Umm Ar-Rasas District
Her Majesty Queen Rania paid a visit to Umm Ar-Rasas District in Amman on August 28th, where she met with members and beneficiaries of its women’s cooperative society.
Her visit included a tour of the District's Visitor Center where she stopped by a clay production workshop run by a beneficiary of the Um Ar-Rasas Women Cooperative Society’s vocational training program, a souvenir shop, and the centre’s cafeteria and kitchen.
Her Majesty who was accompanied by Dr. Maha Almor, the society's director, heard from women who are beneficiaries of the cooperative to create income-generating projects and become financially independent.
She hosted a discussion with the ladies where she reflected on how Jordanian women are known for their resilience and strong determination to achieve their goals. She also commended Dr. Almor, describing her as the archetype of the hardworking Jordanian woman.
She reminded the beneficiaries that when women empower each other, they act as role models, supporters, and friends to each other.
Dr. Almor expressed her delight in Her Majesty’s visit and her huge role in motivating the society to achieve more, while describing Her Majesty as the number one supporter of women in Jordan.
Established in 2008, Umm Ar-Rasas Women Cooperative Society aims to improve the socio-economic status of community members, combat poverty and unemployment, and train women in capacity building. The society also helps local women launch their own income-generating projects, manages the cafeteria of Umm Ar-Rasas Visitor Center, and runs a small handicrafts bazaar.
Among its other undertakings is a family support and guidance program, training programs in traditional handicrafts and marketing, small project management, and a revolving loan fund project.
