Their Majesties welcome Macedonia's Presidential Couple
His Majesty King Abdullah II accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah welcome Their Excellencies Gjorge Ivanov and First Lady Maja Ivanova of the Republic of Macedonia to Jordan earlier today for bilateral talks at the Al Husseinya Palace.
The first stop of their visit began with an official welcoming ceremony for the presidential couple upon their arrival at Al Husseiniya Palace. His Majesty and President Ivanov reviewed a guard of honor as a military band played the national anthem of both countries.
Bilateral meetings and discussions were tabled which was attended by Her Majesty and The First Lady. Both leaders discussed means to forge closer cooperation between the two countries, mainly in the economic, tourism, development, military, security and information technology fields.
After this meetings, His Majesty King Abdullah welcomed the Macedonian President and the accompanying delegation for extended talks which included a working lunch in the presence of a number of senior officials. The visit is an important opportunity to continue following our meeting during the UN General Assembly two months ago.
"Of the fields of mutual cooperation and in the interests of the two countries, and I hope to discuss during this meeting ways to develop this cooperation.
The King added that the two countries enjoy historical relations, and I hope that during your presence in Jordan, you will identify the sectors that will improve the levels of joint cooperation. He also pointed out that Jordan and Macedonia enjoy very good relations at the political level, as well as in the field of security and defense cooperation.
Macedonian President Georgi Ivanov expressed his appreciation for Jordan's important role under the leadership of His Majesty the King to achieve peace and enhance security and stability in the region, stressing his country's keenness to strengthen cooperation with Jordan in various fields.
I would like to build on the friendship and close relations that existed when we were part of the former Yugoslavia and would like to build on them in all areas. He added that Macedonia and Jordan stand out as models of coexistence and harmony, pointing out that Jordan is an important example of a country that contributes positively to the stability of the Middle East.
The Macedonian president pointed out that this visit is a step to open doors for further cooperation in the future, stressing the importance of building on the relations at all levels, especially in the field of higher education, and also between chambers of industry and trade to open opportunities for both countries' business community.
The talks dealt with areas of economic cooperation between Jordan and Macedonia, which reflected positively on the volume of trade exchange between them and benefiting from the investment opportunities available in both countries.The importance of encouraging the private sector in both countries to establish economic partnerships and implement joint projects in many vital sectors was emphasized.
The talks stressed the need to exchange experiences in several fields and increase the tourism exchange, in addition to the importance of benefiting from Jordanian expertise in the pharmaceutical and information technology sectors.
Efforts to combat terrorism and extremism were also discussed as part of a comprehensive strategy. The importance of continuing regional and international coordination to combat this menace was stressed. The talks touched on the phenomenon of fear of Islam and the danger of isolating Muslim societies in the West.
