Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania Al Abdullah were presented with the 2022 Zayed Award for Human Fraternity on Saturday February 26th.

The medal was bestowed during a ceremony at Abu Dhabi's Founders Memorial in recognition of Their Majesties' efforts to promote human brotherhood, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.

FOKAL, a Haitian humanitarian organization, was also honored with the prize.

Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Ahmad Al Tayyib greeted Their Majesties, citing them as role models for fraternity and tolerance in a recorded video message broadcast at the occasion.

He expressed gratitude for His Majesty's ongoing efforts to promote interfaith dialogue and protect Islamic and Christian holy places in Jerusalem, as well as his support for the Palestinian people, and praised Jordan and the Jordanian people for their efforts in hosting refugees.

He also praised Her Majesty's strong involvement in caring for women, children, and the impoverished, as well as in encouraging brotherhood and love among people.

Pope Francis lauded Their Majesties' dedication to promoting the ideals of cooperation and communication across different religious traditions, fighting prejudice, and empowering young people and women in another recorded message.

"By promoting human fraternity ideals, you have helped to make Jordan an example of tolerance and coexistence," the Pope stated.

"The prize that is being awarded to you today is a recognition that also belongs to all Jordanians who, despite many obstacles, pursue the road of peace, moderation, and the rejection of violence with determination and bravery," he added.

Their Majesties have contributed the award money to pay off the financial obligations of impoverished Jordanian women who are unable to repay debts they took to sustain their families.

The award is organized by the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity, an independent international committee established to promote human fraternity values in communities worldwide and to fulfill the aspirations of the Document on Human Fraternity, which was signed in Abu Dhabi in 2019 by Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Ahmad Al Tayyib and Pope Francis.

The event was attended by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation, members of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity, and members of the award's judging committee.

On Monday October 11th, Her Majesty Queen Rania was in Jabal, Amman where she visited the Turquoise Mountain showroom and met with a group of local artisans who have benefited from the organization’s training and employment services.

Turquoise Mountain is an international non-profit organization launched by Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, which aims to strengthen global links to cultural heritage by developing traditional skills, providing local employment opportunities, and reviving historical cultural sites.

On arrival, Queen Rania was welcomed to Turquoise Mountain’s showroom on Rainbow Street by Country Director Richard Dwerryhouse, who gave Her Majesty a tour of the facilities. She stopped by the organization’s design studio to observe a jewelry-making workshop before proceeding to a meeting with a group of the organization’s artisans.

The young artisans explained to Her Majesty how they have benefited from Turquoise Mountain’s various learning opportunities, which include jewelry-making, woodworking, and design workshops. These programs also facilitate cultural exchange among Jordanian and Syrian beneficiaries, thereby enriching the local crafts market.

Turquoise Mountain launched its Jordanian operations in 2018, and currently employs around 70 people. It offers workshops, training courses, and supported apprenticeships to young Jordanians and Syrian refugees, while also operating a heritage-led restoration project at Umm Qais.

Additionally, the organization hosts a cultural heritage program for children between the ages of six and 16, educating local youth on Islamic geometric design, traditional embroidery, and micro-mosaics. It also recently cooperated with the Jordan River Foundation on a re-engagement program for out-of-school children, preparing them to rejoin the formal education system.

Following the death of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on Friday April 9th, ITV news sat down with Her Majesty Queen Rania in 'A Royal Salute special ITV News program dedicated to His Royal Highness, where Her Majesty gave a rare insight into life as a Royal consort.

The program which was filmed in 2020 prior to the pandemic and the Hashemite Kingdom's health guidelines was made to speak on the life of the Duke and his long service as the longest serving consort in British History.

Her Majesty who is consort to His Majesty King Abdullah II spoke about life as a consort defining it as a role that is both specific and indefinable. She continued by saying, "You define it as you go along, based on where you can make a difference, where you are needed and where your passions lie. Because you are in the public eye, you very often aren’t forgiven for the errors."

She then said that the role is always evolving that it changes with the time and with the person.

Her Majesty said that the role and duties of a royal consort as someone when supporting their spouse is to make every effort to alleviate pressure from their spouse, "even if that’s by being a distraction." He/she is to provide a comfortable environment at home to elevate the monarch's mind out of business of the kingdom/country by saying this, "That’s instrumental because the wellbeing of your spouse eventually has an impact on how well they carry out their duties."

Speaking about Prince Philip's experience and personal relationship with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Her Majesty said that it must not have been easy for him most times but "at the same time he was a constant anchor for Her Majesty. I think she probably wouldn’t have been able to carry on her journey they way she did without him by her side.”

For the interview Her Majesty is wearing Chloe scalloped cowl neck blouse
