His Majesty King Abdullah took part in a one-on-one panel discussion with Al-Monitor President Andrew Parasiliti on Wednesday at the Middle East Global Summit, which was hosted by the Al-Monitor and Semafor media organisations and attended by worldwide political and media personalities.

The conversation, which was attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah and Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Prince Hashem bin Abdullah II, covered the latest developments in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Jordan's efforts towards peace and regional integration, as well as pressure on the Kingdom as a result of hosting refugees and Syria's developments.

In response to a query on going forward with the peace process, King Abdullah stated that there are "two elephants in the room."

"One is Palestinian transition and the future for the younger generation of leaders," His Majesty said, adding that "part of the challenge is that we Jordanians, Arabs, Israelis, and Americans do not know who the younger generation of Palestinians are" and that it is critical to be able to reach out to these young voices.

The second elephant in the room, according to the King, is where Israel is going and "how can we have an understanding of a political horizon."

His Majesty emphasised the significance of investing in regional initiatives to break down boundaries, benefit all parties, and pave the road for peace efforts.

In response to the United States' efforts to broker peace between Saudi Arabia and Israel, the King stated that such a step "brings us through a new horizon," but that "part of the challenge is with the Israeli government." This assumption, shared by some in the region, that you can parachute over Palestine, deal with the Arabs, and then work your way back is incorrect. That isn't going to work."

"There is something Saudi Arabia wants, something Israel wants, something Americans want; what you have to add to that component is what do the Palestinians get out of it?" "And what does the region get out of it, because we're all in this together," His Majesty continued.

The King urged people to think strategically rather than tactically.

His Majesty also addressed the waning international attention and support for the refugee issue, warning that "this is a problem that's going to come back and haunt all of us" as a result of the insecurity in south Syria.

The King emphasised Jordan's efforts to help refugees with health and education services, as well as job possibilities, stating that "we're getting nothing compared to what we as a government are trying to put into support."

"That can only get worse with the challenges we have in the region, if there is another wave of refugees," His Majesty cautioned.

Concerning Jordan's efforts to strengthen regional cooperation, the King discussed the trilateral framework with Egypt and Iraq, as well as opportunities for regional projects in water and energy conveyance, railway infrastructure, and logistical bases to benefit the three countries and the region as a whole.

His Majesty finished the discussion by emphasising the region's immense opportunities, emphasising that the opportunity for economic development is what breaks down borders "because, at the end of the day, most people will vote for peace, if they can put food on the table for themselves, for their loved ones."

In the presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Wijdan bint Fawaz Al-Hashemi and other members of the Royal Family, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah inaugurated the Wijdan Art Space building at the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts (JNGFA) Park in Jabal Al Weibdeh on Tuesday May 2nd.

The Wijdan Art Space, which is named after Princess Wijdan, president of the Royal Society of Fine Arts (RSFA), includes studios and places for guided courses and workshops in drawing, painting, pottery, sculpture, printing, graphic design, and art appreciation. These training opportunities, which will be promoted on all JNGFA social media platforms, will be open to all ages of students, young artists, and hobbyists.

Outdoor places for cultural, artistic, and musical evenings are also available at the Wijdan Art Space, as is a café feeding trainees and guests.

The original building housing the JNGFA was also named after Princess Wijdan during the occasion, a decision made by the RSFA Board of Trustees to recognise Her Royal Highness' involvement in supporting art and artists over the last 44 years.

"A dream was born here, in what was a single-story house with a collection of 77 artworks," said JNGFA Director General Dr. Khaled Khreis. "Princess Wijdan's passion for art led her to establish the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts in this very building."

"This monument to art and culture, which now includes four buildings and a park, serves not only as a platform for artists from Jordan and the Arab World, but also as a bridge between cultures and civilizations conveying the message of coexistence, love, and peace through art," Khreis continued.

Princess Wijdan decided to devote herself to the promotion of art in Jordan and the creation of an accessible space for Arab art in 1979, resulting in the establishment of the RSFA and, a year later, the JNGFA in a rented villa furnished with dozens of pieces of art, the majority of which came from her private collection.

The gallery now has 3,000 works in its permanent collection and has grown into a dynamic institution with four buildings, a park, and various projects such as its Touring Museum and The Factory Platform, which aims to involve the local community in all aspects of the creative process.

Following the creation of the JNGFA, Her Royal Highness was inspired to pursue her education by researching regional art trends. In 1993, she earned a doctorate in Islamic Art from the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), and she has subsequently published and edited several volumes on the history of Islamic art.

In addition to teaching at three of Jordan's top universities, the Princess established the Higher Institute of Islamic Art and Architecture at Al al-Bayt University and the Faculty of Arts and Design at the University of Jordan, where she was the first dean.

His Majesty King Abdullah met with US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in Washington, DC, on Tuesday January 31st, followed by an expanded discussion with House leadership.

During a bilateral meeting attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, King Abdullah congratulated McCarthy on his election, expressing Jordan's gratitude for the US and its Congress' ongoing assistance.

McCarthy, for his part, emphasized Jordan and the United States' deep connection, emphasizing his desire to improve relations between the two countries and expressing delight that His Majesty is the first leader he welcomes in Congress after being elected House Speaker.

Furthermore, McCarthy emphasized Jordan's role in promoting peace in the Middle East under the King's leadership, noting the longstanding friendship and cooperation with the Kingdom, which remains constant with the election of new House leadership, as Jordan continues to hold the respect of members of Congress.

His Majesty thanked Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Republican House Majority Leader Steve Scalise on their new posts at the expanded meeting with House leadership.

The King emphasized the Palestinian cause's significance in the Middle East, asking for a renewal of the peace process based on the two-state solution, and underlining the US' key role in calling for calm and de-escalation.

His Majesty reiterated that a just and comprehensive peace must result in the establishment of an independent, viable, and sovereign state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, coexisting with Israel, and reaffirmed his rejection of unilateral measures that jeopardize peace prospects.

The King referred to a series of discussions among Arab leaders held in recent weeks with the goal of stepping up efforts to find a way to stop the escalation in the West Bank as soon as feasible.

His Majesty warned of the dangerous security consequences of prolonging the present quo, which will result in more deaths, particularly as the holy month of Ramadan approaches.

The King reiterated the need of including Palestinians in all economic growth prospects in the area, stressing that his meeting with US President Joe Biden on Thursday will discuss the Palestinian cause as well as major regional concerns.

US House leaders from both the Republican and Democratic parties praised Jordan's efforts in supporting peace, emphasizing the significance of the Hashemite Custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

They also praised the Kingdom's efforts to host refugees and provide them with humanitarian, educational, and health services.

The sessions were attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of His Majesty's Office Jafar Hassan, and Jordan's Ambassador in Washington, DC, Dina Kawar.

On Tuesday May 24th, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah paid a visit to the Jordan River Designs Showroom, where she met with the Jordan River Foundation's (JRF) director general and executive staff members to discuss the foundation's social enterprises, including the latest Jordan River Designs and Al Karma Kitchen projects.

During her meeting with JRF Director General Enaam Barrishi and other staff members, Her Majesty was briefed on Jordan River Designs and Al Karma Kitchen's achievements and future plans, including efforts to begin exporting food items to regional markets abroad and increase the number of female beneficiaries employed by these projects.

The Queen also met with women from Al Karma Kitchen, an empowerment initiative that produces and sells food prepared by local community women. The Queen praised the women's efforts as they shared their success stories and the challenges they faced along the way.

"It makes me so happy to hear that your food is just as good as homemade food, if not better," Her Majesty told the ladies. "That just goes to show how much heart you put into your work!" She continued.

The Queen also stated that each beneficiary is an example of a successful and hardworking Jordanian woman who supports her family and insists on being a productive member of society.

"I want you to be proud of yourselves as much as I am of you and everything you do for your families," Her Majesty said. "Your success paves the way for many other women in Jordan to be empowered," she said.

The Jordan River Foundation hopes to revive traditional cooking and Bedouin-inspired arts and crafts through its network of social enterprises. The foundation currently provides livelihoods and a stable source of income to thousands of Jordanian women, and in 2021 alone, it managed to create over 660 job opportunities through initiatives such as Al Karma Kitchen and Jordan River Designs.

On Tuesday December 7th, Her Majesty Queen Rania visited the Queen Rania Teacher Academy (QRTA) in the King Hussein Business Park to congratulate its team after one of its training programs received international academic accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Last week, QRTA announced that its in-service Teacher Education Professional Diploma (TEPD), which offers online and in-person training to current teachers, had been accredited by CAEP, the largest accreditation council of its kind in the United States, making the academy the first educational organization to receive the international academic accreditation in Jordan and the third in the Middle East.

In a meeting with QRTA’s CEO, Dr. Osama Obeidat, and members of the academy’s management team, Her Majesty stated that the CAEP accreditation is a testament to the competency of the academy and the caliber of its in-service TEPD program.

“This achievement didn’t happen overnight. It comes after a ten-year journey of hard work and constant evolution,” the Queen said, adding that QRTA must continue to assess its programs in order to monitor their real-life impact on teachers and students.

The TEPD was first launched in 2016 by QRTA as a pre-service diploma in cooperation with University College London and the Ministry of Education. In May 2021, QRTA handed over the pre-service diploma to the University of Jordan and three other public universities, making the first-of-its-kind diploma available to prospective teachers across the country.

QRTA has since moved out of University of Jordan campus and handed over its building to the university’s administration, and developed an in-service version of the TEPD, which it now offers to working teachers in Jordan and the region.

During the meeting, Obeidat explained that the CAEP accreditation process took two years to complete, and included the submission of a comprehensive roadmap, rigorous documentation, several interviews, and a site visit. QRTA’s in-service TEPD was granted full accreditation for the coming seven years, which is the maximum accreditation length granted by the council.

Her Majesty was briefed on QRTA’s current work, including its introduction of an online and blended teacher-training model in light of the pandemic. The team explained their efforts to share their experience in pre-service teacher training with public universities, contributing to the successful scaling of the pre-service TEPD program.

The meeting also included a summary of QRTA’s recent contributions to local and regional education industry, such as the academy’s series of free live webinars hosted by Jordanian and Arab educational experts, totaling 72 sessions and netting 789,000 views to date.
