During the meeting, Their Majesties and Royal Highnesses discussed various issues of common interest.

25th Annual Jordan River Handicrafts Exhibition:

Later in the after Her Majesty went to launch the 25th Jordan River Designs handicrafts exhibition, inaugurating a new collection of items handcrafted by women from local communities across the country.

Accompanied by JRF’s Director General Enaam Barrishi, Director of Social Enterprises Mahfouz Said, and Senior Designer Faridon Abida, Her Majesty toured the exhibition, viewing this year’s selection of traditional home and office accessories, gift items, wall hangings, tapestries, rugs, and cushions. A visual adventure celebrating Jordan’s rich heritage, the exhibition boasts a number of themed collections titled “Excursions,” “Wonderlands,” and “Roots.”

This year's exhibition was inspired by Jordan’s striking land and water scenery, rural folklore, and the festive spirit of nomadic culture, each collection employs a wide range of techniques, including needlework, embroidery, photography, printmaking, metalwork, and banana leaf and halfa basketry.

The Queen concluded her tour of the exhibit with a brief visit to JRF’s restaurant, Daimeh, where she mingled with the rest of the attendees. Among them were JRF’s Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Amin Khleifat, as well as ambassadors and a group of the foundation’s partners and donors.

Spanning three floors at the Jordan River Designs showroom in Amman, the exhibition features a wide range of handmade items under the title “Playgrounds,” celebrating the traditional and contemporary arts of rural and nomadic Jordan.

To date, JRF’s social enterprise projects have empowered thousands of women and their families, granting them year-round technical and entrepreneurial training through Bani Hamidah Designs, Al Karma Embroidery, and Wadi Al Rayan Designs.

On Wednesday October 12th, Her Majesty Queen Rania paid a visit to the Al Abdali Boulevard offices of the Makesy mobile application, which supports regional designers, embroiderers, seamstresses, and makers of clothing by connecting them to e-commerce opportunities in the domestic and global fashion industry.

Her Majesty heard from Saeed Omar, the founder of Makesy, during the meeting about the ideas that went into creating the app, which will go live in 2021. By offering designs that are carried out by talented local tailors, the startup hopes to lessen people's reliance on fast fashion and give customers the ability to customize their orders. Customers can do this by uploading images and sketches of their proposed design concepts to the app, where Makesy will then track and monitor the production process carried out by neighborhood artisans and seamstresses.

The program currently collaborates with over 650 talented artisans from all over the nation who are certified in a variety of crafts, including knitting, crocheting, embroidery, beading, weaving, and more. Additionally, Makesy makes sure that the right artisans are chosen to complete each order by taking into account the order's budget, the artisan's level of expertise, and the client's location.

Makesy currently collaborates with 115 fashion designers, retailers, and business owners across 3 continents. The startup has also been successful in securing employment opportunities for 45 women who have received certification from the Bayt Al Khayt academy, an artisanal educational project started in 2010 to support local artisans by improving their economic circumstances and skill sets. The school offers diploma programs in seven different disciplines, including design, crocheting, embroidery, macramé, and home-based business.

On Tuesday May 24th, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah paid a visit to the Jordan River Designs Showroom, where she met with the Jordan River Foundation's (JRF) director general and executive staff members to discuss the foundation's social enterprises, including the latest Jordan River Designs and Al Karma Kitchen projects.

During her meeting with JRF Director General Enaam Barrishi and other staff members, Her Majesty was briefed on Jordan River Designs and Al Karma Kitchen's achievements and future plans, including efforts to begin exporting food items to regional markets abroad and increase the number of female beneficiaries employed by these projects.

The Queen also met with women from Al Karma Kitchen, an empowerment initiative that produces and sells food prepared by local community women. The Queen praised the women's efforts as they shared their success stories and the challenges they faced along the way.

"It makes me so happy to hear that your food is just as good as homemade food, if not better," Her Majesty told the ladies. "That just goes to show how much heart you put into your work!" She continued.

The Queen also stated that each beneficiary is an example of a successful and hardworking Jordanian woman who supports her family and insists on being a productive member of society.

"I want you to be proud of yourselves as much as I am of you and everything you do for your families," Her Majesty said. "Your success paves the way for many other women in Jordan to be empowered," she said.

The Jordan River Foundation hopes to revive traditional cooking and Bedouin-inspired arts and crafts through its network of social enterprises. The foundation currently provides livelihoods and a stable source of income to thousands of Jordanian women, and in 2021 alone, it managed to create over 660 job opportunities through initiatives such as Al Karma Kitchen and Jordan River Designs.

Earlier today June 8th, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah met with Royal Health Awareness Society (RHAS) and digital health platform Altibbi staff and volunteer to learn about their roles in supporting national efforts to confront the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Jordan.

Her Majesty underscored the importance of raising medical awareness and educating the public on methods to prevent the spread of diseases, particularly as Jordan rolls back lockdown measures and life gradually returns to normal, leading to increased interaction between individuals.

Noting that “in difficult circumstances, a community’s compassion and goodwill will always shine through,” the Queen extended her appreciation to every doctor who shared their expertise with callers on the coronavirus information hotline, and to all members of the medical profession. She added that they all played an integral role in containing the disease and raising awareness among the Jordanian people.

Since early March, RHAS stepped up efforts to increase medical awareness among Jordanians by contributing content to the Ministry of Health’s official COVID-19 website, launching a national campaign promoting healthy practices and preventive measures, and developing an interactive chat bot to respond to users’ health concerns.

According to RHAS Director General, Hanin Odeh, the organization’s contributions to Jordan’s coronavirus response were implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, World Health Organization, and UNICEF, as well as Takamol, the Jordan Paramedic Society, and technology companies Sondos Market Research and Imagine Technologies.

Her Majesty also heard from Altibbi’s founder and CEO, Jalil Allabadi, who explained the platform’s launch of the "Ask about Coronavirus" hotline, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and with the support of Hikma Pharmaceuticals. Via the hotline number 111, a total of 116 participating doctors fielded more than 250,000 calls, working 20 hours a day to answer callers’ inquiries on COVID-19.

Established in 2009, Altibbi is the region’s first and largest Arabic digital health platform, offering medical and health-related content to users in real-time through its applications and website.

This newest collaboration aims to provide QRTA’s pre-service Teacher Education Professional Diploma (TEPD) at public universities outside the capital, Amman. Before rolling out the program, QRTA will train university staff in charge of teaching the diploma to ensure full adherence to its standards. The collaboration will span four years.

Through this collaboration, university students aspiring to become teachers will gain the practical skills they need to make learning engaging for children.

Commenting on the new partnership, Her Majesty Queen Rania noted that this collaboration will shed light on QRTA’s important role in teacher training, and enhance the quality of education across Jordan by providing teachers with skills to excel in the classroom.
